I've been doing some thinking on some things and would appreciate your thoughts. Do you ever run across topics, Christian or secular that that Holy Spirit just almost shakes you and says "warning, stay away from, warn others"? Do you warn others even in the face of resounding opposition? I do and I have been. The thoughts occurring to me, is that what I am supposed to do? Granted, this question comes during a time of opposition. The scripture that popped in my head as I am considering this is, "Am I my brother's keeper?". That scripture was clear as a bell to me at one time, now I'm not so sure. In this context, I am wondering, just because i am alarmed, does it mean that I am to warn others or do I just let them figure it out on their own? I know some will head warnings and others will not. I would just love to hear your thoughts on this.

No. Fear is not of Him, DD. Fear is from our carnal nature. God has not given us a spirit of fear (see 2Tim 1:7). In fact, there is NO fear in love (IJohn 4:18) and He is love (8). That does not mean I'm not selective about things, using discernment about where or how to spend my time. But the decision is NOT made from fear. The decision is made from the redemptive use of the time He gives me. For example, when a friend of mine was going through a divorce, she was seeing a counselor and given books to read. I wanted to read those books so I could know and enter into in a godly way the counsel she was being given. I liken it to Paul's going to Mars Hill. He saw for himself the kind of worship that was going on. He was troubled in his spirit by it because he longed for these people to come to know Jesus. But he was not fearful to be there or go there. Oswald Chambers tells of a Baptist preacher who would always cross the street to avoid walking in front of a beer hall. Chambers not only did not avoid the beer hall. He could walk right in and sit right down if he so chose. That is living and walking in freedom as contrasted to living and walking in fear. I don't want to live fear or teach fear or encourage fear. That is not of God. If we live Christ, teach Christ, and encourage others to know Him, they are freed from this fear. That's how I live and want to lead and teach others to live as well. Perfect love casts out fear, all fear, and His name is Jesus.\o/ LL

"Throwing pearls before swine," is one that I think about. Another is the one that talks about those who do not have the Spirit in them will not be able to understand spirtual thing. dh and I were talking about this the other day and come to the conclusion that there are issues that we won't dive into with certain family members. Politcs is #1. If I'm up here and see that I don't understand a paticular thread I usually stay out.

I know some will head warnings and others will not. I would just love to hear your thoughts on this. I`ve had friends that have come from good Christian homes that prefer to live together in sin rather than get married legally. They know from their upbringing this is a sin. They have been warned by others not to do this. So this is where the word discernment comes in. If they didn`t listen to others and think they`re only very judgmental, what makes me think they`ll listen to me? They have already made their choice. On the other hand a person may be slowly drifting into a life of sin. God is senting me the warning bells to maybe warn that person or maybe just to pray for them. The question is when do I just allow them to figure it out what they`re doing is wrong on their own and when do I warn them? I`ll add another word to the word "discernment" called "love". Gal.6:1 tells us "Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted". Do you love that person enough that you can deal with them in a gentle way without being tempted yourself? If not you`ll do more harm then good. However as the Spirit leads us, we must never neglect to pray for one another.

I have found in my life that often when those "bells" are going off, it is because there is coming a period of testing for myself. Just wanted to add my two cents. May God richly bless you, His beloved.

I think the best thing to do is pray for them. Pray for the Holy Spirit to guide them and you. He does not lead us wrong. If the Spirit leads me to speak to them then He will give me the words to say. It will work out right because God is the one in charge not me. If I do it within my self then I can cause a lot of damage.

Well said Buckfin. I've noticed that when I'm around those I'm struggling with right now they tend to bate me. It's hard to hold your tongue, but well worth it at times.

Sometimes folks need to suffer on their own, and its hard to let them do so. And it makes it more difficult since they spread their suffering around.
