Hello Men.
I find myself sitting in Iraq these days and I have had lots of time to consider my life's purpose and how I can fulfill that role in my time here on Earth.
Through careful observation of the men around me, it occurs to me that men everywhere are lacking an adventure. I want to find a way to take men from their current state -- bored-- and help them to find their adventure and live out their purpose.
I want to create an army of Christian Men dedicated to living out their purposes, bringing their wives along for the ride, and serving as an example to their children. I feel that this is my purpose.
I'd like to pose a few questions for you men out there who can feel this at their core....
What do you feel is worth fighting for?
If you were able to create an adventure for yourself, what would you want to do?
I'm not sure where I'm going with this, but I figure I'll just shoot from the hip on this one and adjust fire as we move along. I look forward to hearing from you all.

At my age having a good BM is an adventure.

Hey Jarhead!! As a former Marine I have found that I am always seeking the adventure and people to share that with. Life in the real world is quite different than the military, guys don't share the same values, the brotherhood is harder to maintain or even create. I have recently found a group that seems to seek that same adventure of a Christian man alive. So I hope that they can revive that feeling for me.
So, stay safe over there and bring yourself home in one piece.

I hope, Shoe, that you are able to find a brotherhood amongst your men in your church. If you haven't done it with them, I recommend starting with John Elderidge's book, Wild at Heart. It's a good book to go through with a group of men and it builds that brotherhood you left behind in the Corps.

Thanks, I did have a small men's group at our church and we did go through the Eldridge's series. My problem is the lack of people within the group that are more my age, or share the same interests. Like I mentioned before, I am getting to know a ministry that does purposely address being a man alive.

Yeah, we'd wanna start out in mid-management somewhere. We don't want no of that boot camp stuff and we don't wanna get dirty.

I appreciate your service to our country, as well as your concern about this issue. I feel what you are talking about. Yes, I read all of John Eldridge's books, and they are good, but it all comes down to actually experiencing what God meant for you. If you don't actually "feel" that, then the empty stirring remains. After a rough and rocky ride through some of my children's choices, my view of my stellar fatherhood was shaken pretty hard. Since then, I still struggle to feel what God intended for all of us men, and I am looking for a specific direction to aim the warrior within. I also find myself tired at times, wishing we weren't at war (Spiritually), even though I know it would be foolish, and immature to wish for the days when I thought it would all "work out". I am in the middle of accepting that God has a much bigger plan for me than I have yet realized, and I am constantly overturning rocks to try to see what He has placed in front of me.
To answer your questions, I fight for the weaker ones at work, my children's struggle with becoming adults, and have found that God puts Grace into your account when you help "where you're at", even if you can't change the things you want to.
As far as my adventure, I would probably be a bit "over the edge", and find myself connecting with the William Wallace in Braveheart. At this age, I have no fear, and am always looking for adventure, but am trying to learn that it is more important to try to figure out where the enemy is before you charge off over the horizon. I would seriously probably want to be with you if I could, -and I would probably get myself killed trying to be courageous.
Again, I appreciate you stepping out on this subject, and pray that you will successfully lead the charge and help others in this way.

I remember Billy Graham saying that even after all he has done for Christ the only regret or what he would do differently is pray more and study scriptures more. This is other than we could have imagined given all that he has done.Essentually he and I too find now that effort with out the right motivation is meaningless. That is without faith and love it is impossible to please Him or ourselves.
Today we find many young people running here and there looking for adventure to satisfy their souls or restless spirits and for many it all comes unstuck in a headonistic self destructive dive, leaving them worse off than they first started. I once read a piece that said in effect that, life is not something to be worshipped or wrapped up in cotton wool only to be brought out on special occassions to impress others but one that needs to be driven at high speed, crashed and rolled into an early grave all so the driver may cry, "Wow what a ride!"
Scripture says that a people (a man) with out a vision is destroyed. I know from experience there is nothing more self defeating than to realise your dreams in this life. The vision is to be Christ not to do Christ. Our dreams motivate us! Oh to dream more!
If you really want an adventure try telling your brothers in arms that you love them and deal with their responses.

Just finished watching the incredibles and the fathers conclusion was that family is the adventure and how glad he was that he did not miss it. May I add faith is also.
