I've been asked to write a play. I have the material, but have limited experience in the proper way to write out a script (ques to actors, lighting, etc). Anyone have any websites or advice to give? Anything you can offer will be much appreciated. Thanks! :0)

I have written one play, but it was informal, so I couldn't really help you with formal scripting. I can tell you that it should be plain (likely size 12 times new roman) , with centered act & scene titles. Check out this link for a nice template, or google "play script template". I hope that helps!

Having written many short skits and a couple of published plays, and having acted in many productions, I can tell you there is not an industry standard format for stage plays like there is for screenwriting. I developed my own format based on what I was comfortable with as an actor, since actors are the ones who have to read and interpret the script. I would suggest that you check out your local library and read through some stage plays they have there. Every library has a collection of published broadway plays. That should help you.

Thanks for the adivce everyone! I was able to find some sample templaits online, and based mine around that. They seemed really happy with the script, so I guess I didnt do anything noticeably wrong, lol. Rehearsals start in a few weeks! :0)
