Oh yeah, I'm sure. I'm just trying to enjoy my time off until I get "the call" to report for duty. Last year I didn't get called in til Feb.

This may be my last season. I'm thinking about throwing myself fully into my portrait business after I get a better camera. We'll see.

Not a whole lot going on here. Looking at some cooler weather the next couple days, and it has been so nice here too, except for maybe the Mountain Cedar Pollen which has everyone's allergies all whacked out. Oh well.

I started a "reading hour" with the kids. For one hour, every day (mon - fri) we (myself, Ben and Evelyn) sit down, turn off all the televisions and grab a book and read for exactly one hour. It's been going really well so far. I bought a bunch of books at a sale recently and filled a basket with them, so we're never at a loss for something to read.

I'm so blessed that both of the kids enjoy reading as much as they do. And now this gives me time to get some "reading for pleasure" done as well. Otherwise, I would never have time to read.

I love reading hour!

I'm a firm believer in kids reading. It can take their imaginations anywhere. Have you ever got the kids to try and write and illustrate their own books? I used to love doing that as a kid. I'd sit up in bed on the weekends when my parents were still asleep and write and draw to my heart's content!

If I know that a kid has an interest in reading, they get books from me for birthdays and Christmas. It can be educational, get their imaginations flowing and be FUN all at the same time!

I was a bookworm as a kid. Can you tell?

As an adult, I'm filling up my 3rd bookshelf. Definitely beats having them on the floor like I did before!

I need more bookshelves. I also need to weed out the baby (board-type) books off of the kids bookshelves, but it's hard to get rid of some of those books. Maybe I can just box them up and stick them in a closet somewhere.

You don't think other people would like to read them?

Maybe you could set up a system with your friends/family/neighbours etc where the kids can borrow each other's books, like a lending library.

I hear you on bookshelf space. I'm onto my 3rd bookshelf. John and Joan were going to get me a 4th bookshelf for Christmas, but I'm trying to stay with the 3rd for now.

Thanks y'all!!!

We had a nice 12th anniversary. I made a roast (complete with potatoes and carrots) in the crock pot, and Ronnie got me the dozen donuts (a donut for each year we've been married - hey, I'm easy) for dessert. We had a good lazy day at home.

So now it's February, and Ronnie will be turning 50, Ben will be turning 9 (I can't believe it) and I should be going back to work soon. Yay. Good thing too, because Ronnie is grounded (can't drive) til he gets his eyes taken care of. He has an appt on Tuesday, but he thinks he has cataracts, so we'll see. Prayers would be appreciated.

Wow! Ben will be nine?

I hope Ronnie can get his eyes sorted out soon. Not that I've ever had cataracts, but I've heard they're not nice.

So, Ronnie is scheduled for cataract surgery on the 25th. He can't drive until he recovers and passes the eye exam, so he is not working until that time.

I sure hope I get called in soon.

Not good on the finances, but God can provide.

My youngest brother is going to have to have his second set of cataracts removed. He had the first ones removed when he was about 40, now he has more.

I hope Ronnie heals well.

Not sure Ray...I know he will be bandaged for a day, they take off the bandage the next day, then a week later he has a follow-up appt. He should be able to see better the next day, but he can't do any heavy lifting for awhile. I imagine that will determine when he can go back to work, since he has a lot of heavy lifting involved in his job (unloading the truck and all).

OH - and I just got the call a little while ago. I report back to work next Thursday.

OH - and the surgery was re-scheduled for the 16th (Benjamin's birthday). So hopefully he'll be back on the road even sooner.

YAY about the call, Beckey.

I remember the eye surgeries that I've had. I hope he doesn't need the anti-nausea meds that I did after it. It's a bit hard to see properly for a little while, but it's not too bad.

Well, I guess I'm under some stress. I noticed a bald spot about the size of a half dollar on the right side of my head (above my ear) last night. After the initial shock, I called my bil, the PA, and asked him what it might be. He was 99.9% sure that it is Alopecia Areata, an auto immune disorder often caused by stress or depression. Yay, like I don't have enough to worry about. He told me to google it and sure enough, that's what it looks like. THO, I did get a little freaked when I opened the wikipedia link and the first photo it shows is of a totally bald woman. <----yeah, that's the face I made.
