Cool. In that case I'll definitely get the 580EX, the Sigma 30mm f/1.4, and a decent tripod (hopefully one that won't break the first time I take it out and force me to keep its foot on with super glue, as with my current model). Will probably also order a lens hood and circular polarizer for my 10-22.

Finally set up a photo gallery on my server. In it are some of my favorite photos from my Ottawa/Toronto/Niagara trip in May. Includes the Ottawa Tulip Festival and Toronto's Centre Island Park. http://photos.yoderdev.com Soon I'll try to get some in from my trip to Copper Canyon, Mexico from last November.

Hi all, I am new here and looked around for a photographic thread. I love taking pictures of mainly the birdlife we have in Southern England, living on the coast gets me out most days to various local nature reserves. Hubby bought me a Nikon D60 on Mothers Day and as yet I have not mastered F.stops and things so generally use the pre-sets. I did manage to get one of my photos published in our local Ornithological magazine of a Kestrel so that got me going really. I bought a 55/200 lens but its without the VR so needs a steady hand at times. I also got a second hand Sigma 70/300 but that's manual focus so taking shots of birds in flight is not possible. I am saving up for a Nikon of that size but it will take time, probably by then I will have learnt some more.

Well here's the link, I have just recently set this up so a lot more of my photos have to go in. The flying shots I did with the 55/200 lens despite no VR they haven't come out too bad. But your shots of the stormy skies are incredible! http://picasaweb.google.com/velmelyn4

Wow! I really enjoyed those. You really have an eye for composition. The shots on the bird feeder and the birds in flight were my favorites. I'm amazed at the shots since you have no VR on that 55/200! Are you shooting in RAW (NEF) or JPG? One of the things you can do with the D60 is to shoot RAW+Basic JPG (1/16) so that you have a JPG for now and a RAW to process later, if you haven't begun to use RAW yet. ANY image processed from RAW is going to be better than the JPG that the camera produces. Plus, you can recover blown highlights and underexposed shadows. All-in-all, it makes for more dramatic images without artifacts as would happen in processing the JPG. Processing from RAW is how I was able to create two entirely different sets of images of the clouds as if each were the original. Great shots. Let us know when you finish putting up more! quote:

I suppose my composition knowledge has come from my painting/ sketching hobby. I don't shoot RAW as I wasn't sure what to do with them afterwards The weather is not too good at the moment for any photography, but I will at some point next week be able to upload more of the older photos onto my site page but I have a few busy days ahead.

It's been a while since I've picked up my camera but I'm planning on getting back out there when the leaves start to change. Really lusting after a lensbaby...but figure I better pay my tuition before I shell out cash monies for something like that. Quick question though: has anyone ventured into selling/licensing their photos? I would like to do this but I don't want to sell my creative rights...I know there are sites online and I've done a bit of research but didn't know if anyone here was more familiar with it? -reba.

Thankyou so much for all your help! I have taken a couple of shots in RAW today and will look at them tomorrow. I only have Elements 2 but will be purchasing the 7, I have found a site that sells them a lot cheaper than Adobe themselves. Lynn

I grew up near Occoquan, Virginia, about 30 miles from Washington, DC. Back then it was a tiny little backwater town that was a bit run down . But, times change. Now it is Historic Occoquan, a tourist and shopping mecca. My sister and I got together for dinner and then walked through the town for some photos. I particularly enjoyed the Golden Goose, a Christmas Shop. But, I was VERY happy that my wife wasn't with us or I'd have been carrying around a lot of bags instead of a camera! http://www.flickr.com/photos/27657433@N08/sets/72157622077215551/

Living here in Portsmouth UK its mainly ships and boats but I often venture inland to some quaint thatched villages, because the roads are so narrow its difficult to park up and stop for photos or even painting/sketching. As you can imagine taking photos of naval ships gets cautious looks from various people. Hopefully I am going to make a 'light box' so that I can practise macro, wish me luck! We women do tend to give men a hard time when in shopping mode.

Ive been photographing for about 9 years now. I didnt really have an interest in photography until I went to Creation 2000 in PA, and I had 3d glasses for some odd reason and I thought I would experiment with my disposable camera and the red and blue "filters", that started it all. :) I eventually got this really "great" 3mp 6x optical digital camera that I was happy with until I took a photography class, and the lack of manual options left me dissatisfied with it. :) Ive since started my own photography business, but right now business is kind of slow. Gotta work on that marketing. :) I like photographing all sorts of things, but action shots are what I like the most. I like the challenge of capturing the moment.

It's a small area; but, they do have some nice shops. There is an absolutely WONDERFUL French restaurant between Woodbridge and Occoquan called Bistro l'Hermitage. The new Lorton Art Center is also worth visiting. It's right up the hill from Occoquan.
